Another art post...oh yeah!
Yes, more drawings. It's what I've been doing lately. I highly recommend fullview. As before, I'm happy to answer questions about colours and such.

So first off I should note that the colors I couldn't get right on the drawing of Regulus in his phoenix shirt have been fixed for the most part, and therefore I have edited the post. Also, I've been considering selling the actual drawings, since I'm a little desperate for money. I'd love to just do so at a convention, but I don't know if they'd sell there, since they aren't instantly recognizable...

Here's the link to that post.

Second, I have two more Harry Potter drawings--I had three, but I decided that I didn't like the one I did of Sirius. Even though I pretty much drew him the way I'd wanted, I don't like the colors. (If you want to be silly, though, you can probably open my scrapbook at look anyway >.<)

I was being annoyed at the amount of drawings in the "art nouveau" style that were not only based off Mucha, but had this circle motif that everyone was using. And not only was it a circle in the background, but if you looked, it was the same damn circle! Not even Mucha did that~! Anyway, this is based off a poster I had on my wall for "Los Cigarillos Paris" by Aleardo Villa.

This was the beginning of a theoretical series. It's a jinx drawing. No joke, I've had to restart it no less than ten times. That is not exaggeration. I told myself that this was the final attempt, and I meant it. I'm not redoing it. I didn't even have the courage to make a super-fancy background for fear of messing it up. And I'm still not satisfied. But I've got a bit of a story for this one in general:

In one of the WIPs (which never got finished >.<) I gave Regulus an exact birthdate, since I've decided that Rowling is completely random about who she announces them for (Remus has an exact birthday, but she hasn't even officially confirmed Sirius' birth year, let alone month or day). I was going to change it, then found out it's the same date (August 28th) as Leo Tolstoy was born. That just amuses me. Anyway, Virgos are extremely meticulous, and can worry about hygiene to the point where it can border on obsessive-compulsive behavior and/or hypochondria. Having an eye for small details, they have little patience for shoddy work, and can turn molehills into mountains.

There was a point in history that symbols were given to everything, including sun signs (somehow I have the feeling it was about the same time that the Deadly Sins were associated with colors and animals) so here goes: The colors associated are brown and (navy) blue, hence the reason he's wearing blue again. It's an Earth sign, and is ruled over by Mercury, thus his shirt. The ring he's wearing is supposed to be peridot, which is the birthstone for August. Goethe, btw, was also a Virgo, and coincidentally also born August 28th.

A note on the "series" of Zodiac drawings

I wanted to do others; I started one for Remus (Pisces), finished Sirius' (Sagittarius) and decided I hated it. I tried to do Cancer (which, btw, is also my sign) but I want to use Barty Crouch, and...well...I can't believe I was agonizing over how hard Sirius is to draw when Barty is about ten times harder. No joke. A lot has to do with the fact that he's blonde, and I never got in the habit of drawing blondes, since I'm not generally attracted to them.

(Off on a tangent about Barty, all I can say is fuck movie!Barty. Why is he a brunette? And he never goes crazy in the courtroom in the books--you're supposed to spend nearly the entire book wondering if he really was a Death Eater. And forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't nervous twitches like the one they gave him psychological, and therefore no amount of Polyjuice would have the ability to get rid of it? I've seen several people use Mitch Hewer (who plays Maxxie in the Brit show "Skins") as a model for (young) Barty, and I must say I approve. I'd say it's because he's just so expressive, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that it's partially because Maxxie is the cutest thing to ever happen to television. 'Course, I'm still slightly baffled by my sudden love of Barty Crouch...)

Maybe I'll get around to doing them. I have other things to get done.

Linked via regulus_centric =D

I've used 28th August as Regulus's birthday for years now. How strange.

(though for my crack!RP!Regulus, his is 4th August since that's Percy Bysshe Shelley's birthday, who drowned, and crack!Regulus fancies himself a romantic >.<.)

Out of 365.4 days of the year, we've managed to pick the same one. Wow. (Maybe it's a sign that it's true?)

That or Minerva's abandoned me for a while XD

I actually put him as Aries, usually, but James has that (canonically) covered. Although, I'm starting to wonder if Sagittarius fits him better, anyway. We'll see how Barty comes out though, if I manage to actually draw him >.

Wow I love how you coloured their faces <3 The colours in Regulus' face blend just so smooth and Bellatrix looks great. I'm not sure but Regulus' face looks a bit too thin though? At least when I compare it to the phoenix one. Anyway I adore all the three :)

I'm sure it is too thin. There comes a point, though, where it's best to just give up, and this was it. I'm sure the next time I draw him he'll look absolutely fine, too...

YOUR BELLATRIX IS GORGEOUS, THERE. As for Regulus, I'm glad to see a depiction of him since he seems kind of underrated - in any case, yours has style. Love the idea of zodiac drawings, by the way.

(Hey, they always screw up the hair. They've never once given Albus his auburn hair and beard in the flashbacks, for instance.)
MissTeacakes: notbrokenmissteacakes on May 13th, 2010 07:28 pm (UTC)
I've always seen Bella as a sort of psychotic Sirius with breasts.
There's this combination of both being hawkish and very sexually charged.

Yeah, they do always mess up the hair. Look what they did to the Blacks! (What's with Sirius' 'fro in Snape's memory?)

I have those characteristics associated with her too, for some reason. That and a fondness for scheming.

That's just what I mean! (OH, and Narcissa. I just... what? How hard can it be to get a plain colour?)
MissTeacakes: commodusmissteacakes on May 14th, 2010 03:52 pm (UTC)
Hey, Sirius can't fight genetics completely~

Yeah, Narcissa...I always saw her as more of a white-blonde, and...her actress just sort of bugged me in general.

(It took me like...two minutes to figure out who you were XD)

I'm sure he'd love to, though! Or force all his traits out of the others. XD

Yeah, same here. I had this image of her as a sort of "unreal" detached being, and here she looked more like someone's great-aunt.

(Aww, who else runs about with random Greek plastered all over? XD)
