Three papers due, and I really haven't had time to work for myself....*sighs* So I'm starting to stagnate when it comes to writing.

What do I do when I have a writer's block? Well, one I watch a movie. Today's pick was A Little Princess, which I can't really watch with anyone else around. I always end up crying, and feel like a wuss. But, also, I do something really geeky: Thus, I have a new Homeric Map of Doom--it's an 18x24" map of Greece marking where everyone was from, and the catalogue of ships (along with where the Trojans came from).

One of my friends told me that I should paint a wall of my bedroom to be a map of Greece. I ended up talking about how when I had my own house, at least one of my rooms was going to have frescoes, and if we were still in contact he could come see it. He said that he was going to come help me paint them.

My teacher told me to read Suetonius for my paper on Nero, and I really wish I could steal the book. It is one of those old, old books you get in a used bookstore, and it's the perfect size and everything. And the way he wrote wasn't all stiff and academic, the way textbooks are now.

I always thought people were being bitter and close-minded when they said they hated their exes. But no--mine thinks we're still friends. He thinks he's going to get into Colombia University without any trouble, just because he got into Gettysburg for undergrad. No matter the fact that our school is by no means the best school. He's told me before that anything before the Persian Wars didn't make any difference in the grand scheme off things, knowing I'm a Classics minor. And in the meantime, he's made it clear two or three times that he doesn't think history majors can get anywhere in life, and that they're aways in debt for the rest of their lives. And you know what? When I'm a rich historian--on my own money--I'm going to look him up and laugh at his poor archaeologist's ass.

It seems like he's forgotten that success is not solely dependent on your degree, but on your personality and intelligence! Best of luck to you in proving him wrong.

I get that all the time - "Study something that will let you actually earn a living!" "You're not going to get anywhere with that!" and so on. It's pretty hypocritical. That's right, show him!
