The Tudors, and probably the strangest peeve I've ever had
In the most dangerous fit of procrastination that I've had to this date, I started watching The Tudors. I rather like it; for one thing, it's done by Showtime, which allows for more things to be shown. It's not done by the same people that did Rome (and actually, that one was HBO), which I liked at first, until I decided it was overly cynical.

I also went in knowing that it was made as a drama first and a history second. Which means that, while it has some historical merits, it ignores others. Therefore, I could separate my mind from the history. And Henry VIII, who actually was a very attractive man in his prime--before his waistline expanded, much in the same way as Marlon Brando's did--makes for an interesting main character. The attention to continuity is also very nice.

There is one pet peeve I have though:

The men don't take off their trousers during sex. I mean it. They're out there, fucking all these women, and they don't actually get fully undressed. I can accept pulling them down just enough while wenching, but if I were a women getting a conjugal visit from my husband, I would expect him to get naked. And y'know, often they don't even pull them down. Maybe medieval trousers had crotch-flaps, much the same way as boxers do now, but seriously. If we're supposed to assume that's the case, it's still just plain rude. Besides, when it comes to television, it really just looks like dry humping.

And, in fact, I can only think of two occasions so far (okay, so I'm only halfway through watching) in which they do get fully undressed: one was early, when Charles Brandon was caught with the daughter of Buckingham (and of all times to be able to make a quick escape, it's that one) and when the gay choir composer was with Sir What's-his-name. Hell, Henry will be sleeping next to his wife, and he'll still be wearing his royal black boxer short-thingies.

Other than that annoying thing, though, I'd recommend it to other people.

I remember Alex recommended it to me. Now that I have your rec as well I just have to watch it.

Sex with pants on? Noooo. It'd hurt my best feelings.

Yeah, it's definitely worth watching. I wish I had the time to finish watching the series at the moment.

But yeah, the sex thing just puts my teeth on edge every time.
