QAF WIP - "Noises"
I got so far, and didn't know where I was going, exactly.

-

Justin isn't entirely sure what woke up. Still, pulls his feet up and presses his cold toes to Brian's legs, hoping to warm them up, who shifts slightly, but doesn't wake. Then the blond's eyes fly open when he hears something. He doesn't know what it is, or whether he heard anything at all.

It took a long time for him to adjust to living in the country without all the sounds and lights of the city. He wasn't ready for the pitch darkness, and eventually insisted on having the outside lights on. And the house makes all sorts of creepy noises at night, the least of which is the hum of appliances. The floorboards creak constantly, as do the pipes every time the heat is turned on, expanding and compressing with the temperature. For the first couple weeks he'd wake at every noise, and whenever he did, Brian would. After a while, Brian started ignoring him.

Now Justin lays with his eyes wide open, perfectly still and listening closely. Brian is laying on his back, and Justin shifts his ear off Brian's chest to listen more clearly. He's just decided that it was nothing when he hears it again. It's a soft thump, and most certainly isn't the natural movement of the house.

Brian,” he whispers. “Brian!”

The older man groans. “What?”

Listen!”

Brian gives a sigh, but Justin can tell by the tension in his muscles that he's indulging him. After a few more minutes of silence, Brian settles back down to go to sleep and Justin feels like an idiot. Still, he reaches over and takes Brian's far hand and pulls it over to his shoulder. Brian gives a soft huff, and rolls onto his side, wrapping his arms all the way around Justin, who buries his face in Brian's chest.

He's almost asleep when he hears the sound again and gasps softly, tensing. Brian is starting to get annoyed.

Justin would you—“ He stops dead when there's another soft thump. “What the...fuck...?”

There's more noise, and Brian is climbing out of bed, pulling a pair of jeans on. Justin starts to follow but Brian stops him.

You stay here.”

No way!” Justin whispers back. “I'm coming with you.”

Brian has apparently decided that their best bet is to turn on lights as they go to scare anyone in their house into running rather than take the chance that they have a gun, as he turns on the hallway light first thing. Justin follows, gently laying a hand on Brian's back. As they move toward the stairway, the sounds get louder. It almost sounds as if someone is going through their dishes, and Justin wonders what a thief could want with plates, even designer ones.

Is it a ghost? A serial killer? Santa Claus?

Fuck if I know.

Hey! What the hell do you mean you don't know?!

A neughbors' kitten? Gus who ran away from his moms? Deb, secretly stuffing their fridge?

A serial killer! I want blood! Rivers of blood!

I had so many options for this, I didn't know which one to pick; it ended up a draw between a serial killer, a seventeen-year-old troubled Gus, and something that could be paranormal but it's never entirely clear. (The Debbie option was pretty creative on your part...I never thought of that!)

Actually, I also had ideas for a "Brian gets a real stalker" fic at some point, which could very well fit in with this scenario...

Maybe I should make a poll on what people want to see most...

I like the real stalker idea. Make a poll, I'm sure you'll get some interesting prompts.

I'd choose paranormal, though. Looooove creepy stuff.

Molly ran away from home! (And got in using Jenn's spare key.)
