I put all this stuff today, since I probably won't get to tomorrow. I will have officially been legal for a full year tomorrow. Like it really stopped me when I was sixteen. Or seventeen. But something about being 19 years old makes me feel...well...old.

Yes, I am aware that I keep going over pronunciation, but it's important to me. Because I was the person in the front row in the movie theatre wincing every time Helen said "Men-al-ow-us". And during the band concert where my (former) teacher said "Ein Klein Nachtmusic" (yes, music is spelled the English way, because that's how she pronounced it.) I think that every time someone pronounces something wrong, a geek dies.

I have decided that Encyclopedia Mythica is a generally reliable source.

It occurred to me while reading Fire From Heaven that most everyone must be pronouncing "Bucephalus" wrong, since it's been seen spelled with a "k". I remain slightly baffled on the c/k thing; if anyone knows, please please tell me.

The other baffling one is "Ajax", if for no other reason than that I've seen it spelled "Aias". I only understood once I saw "Telemon" put before it.

I've been treating "ae" like lazy a-umlaut (*cough* I don't feel like figuring out how to type that right now...American standard keyboards are a little strange, from what I can tell. We don't have anything like that.) From what I can tell, I was right. I've also been a little weird about the name "Menoetius"--the logic in me won't allow me to pronounce it anything but "meh-noh-tius"; it's the only "oe" I have a problem with o.O Maybe it's the German rules getting to me, I don't know.

I am once again halfway through the chapter. If I get time, maybe I can give it to you for my birthday. If I haven't decided I hate it again. At which point it'll go back to the drawing board.

And I got yelled at today for being "lazy". Because I'm totally not constantly working off debts to my parents. My dad asked me what I'm doing to help out tomorrow. I think he's forgotten...

Btw, if you want to play around with my icon, making cooler and stuff, go ahead. I'm lazy.

Hey, happy birthday. It's really not that bad!

About pronunciation - I totally agree. It just bothers me when I don't know how to say something correctly in my head (or don't know it's correct). I didn't think before that the c/k issue made any difference if you knew the right pronunciation, but it really does (I guess the change was due to... latinization? Though recently I've heard some conflicting accounts of correctly pronounced Latin too). I really hope they want me for the Greek studies, if only to finally learn it right.

Good luck on that chapter...

Thanks!

I can't even take Greek yet. And I need to find a class for modern Greek (we only have Ancient. Athenian, I think.) And I couldn't sign up for Latin cause they took too long getting around to officializing my major/minor.

I decided to try writing some original stuff. If I'm sweet, I can get both done ^^

What I'm going for is ancient Greek as well (Attic, I presume), but they're only opening a modern Greek class this year, I've heard. But that's such a pity about Latin. They should be ashamed!

I see.... ^_^
