Blank banner (aka "Do I Know You?")
I was going to make a "friends only" banner with this, although it's only half-true for this journal; anything not relating to my personal life is open for the public. However, I decided to leave it blank for now; it can be used for just about anything. The title of the entry would have been what I put on it, but it seemed to come off as a little too rude for people who don't already know me.

Really, I want to talk about this character a bit, because it's a concept that I came up with a long time ago, and I wish I had the courage to use. But first, here's the full drawing:

Kaiyama is an onnagata, which is a sort of Japanese female impersonator, in the very loosest sense of the word; onnagata are kabuki actors that specialize in playing women. He's something of a (refreshingly?) corrupt character, in that he uses his considerable talent for his own personal gain, and in the process gaining the attention of a samurai. The whole thing would have ended up a very fucked-up romance, since Kaiyama has an attitude problem and Hiromatsu's married.

I think it's because I'm not part of the culture, in any sense of the word, that I've never had the courage to write one of the stories I had that was set in Japan, despite the knowledge I do possess. Maybe someday.

I used a picture of the divine Saotome Taichi, an incredible onnagata himself, for this.
