A bit of personal advice would be appreciated:

I met this girl in Greek, and we're as good friends as you can be, when you've only known someone for a few weeks. The last couple classes she's missed, and I know the first time she was in the ER all morning. I want to tell her to contact our professor, who's probably the nicest guy I know, if she has a personal problem, but then the voice from my WASPy upbringing has been telling me not to poke into other people's private lives. Also, she's a freshman, and I'm in my fifth year, and I sort of want to help her as much as I can, but I'm a little afraid I might come off as patronizing.

So: Should I stay out of it, or should I go ahead and look out for a friend?

Look out for a friend. That's what I'd do.
