I hate stupid people!
Okay, a very short screaming!post.

A while back, I wrote a Count Cain fanfiction, and as a side-plot Cain and Riff are realizing their feelings for each other and stuff. It brings up that in the Victorian era, homosexual relationships were not accepted, especially with a 17 and 27 year-old. And I got this reply:

"I have to point out that in the Victorian era that was perfectly fine.^_^
To have an older and younger lover. Plus, love is love- whether you're
gay, straight, old, young (except if you're younger than fifteen and being
seduced by a much older man for insane purposes. I can only be okay with that
if he/she doesn't make a sexual move)."

One: Oscar Wilde got sentenced to four years hard labor for "indecency". No, it was not acceptable!

Two: When the hell did I ever say anything bad about gays?! I have always expressly said that "love is love"--I do believe in the after-life, and I'm verging on the belief of reincarnation. I don't believe in the importance of our physical bodies. And if she had looked through my other stuff, she would have seen that 90% of the stuff on that account was slash (I went on a small crusade to change the way people view Sirius' family, so it's got stuff based around his mother and stuff).

Although, due to the emotional maturity of teenagers, along with certain social restrictions, I don't believe it's appropriate for teenagers to date people more than three or four years older. If it really is love, they can wait. As you can see by my writing, I do believe in exceptions to the rules.

So this random person is for some reason lecturing you about your story and Victorian England? INCORRECTLY about Victorian England? I think it sort of screws their message - "love is love, so don't pay any attention to that guy who got sentenced for it!" Seriously, I just... don't get some people.

As for the age differences, I think it really is up to one's maturity. (For the record, the age of consent is 15 where I live rather than around 18, though I've noticed that in some countries it's even lower, so... different standards everywhere?) On the whole, I agree with you since I also tend to see teenagers mature enough to be with someone significantly older more as an exception than the rule.

I just didn't reply. It was an abandoned story, anyway.

It's eighteen here, but the government won't do anything unless the parents want to press charges. I know maybe two couples that stayed together after high school, though. People change, is all.

No doubt they're going to be very disappointed about that. xD

Well, you're right. It's just that some things got me thinking and... I just realized I've spent a lot of time mulling over age differences and how much they matter or not. Oh, well.

LOL. I wonder how she ever came up with that. Wasn't the Victorian Era when homosexuality was illegal? Also I like how she pretty much says "love is love, except if you're younger than 15, then it's completely different!"

I do have to agree about the maturity level of teenagers--I always look at the drama going on in my friends' lives and I wonder if they don't realize that they still have like, 80+ years of life that is not high school.
