Drabble: A River of Laughter
Title: A River of Laughter
Word count: 100
Notes: Out of all mythologies in the world, it's somewhat ironic that my favourite character isn't one of the three majors (Greek, Egyptian, Norse), but a Native American character, Coyote. He's a trickster, and the things he does usually end up flopping. This is from one of my favourite stories about the river Hahamongna, which translates (roughly) into "Laughing River"; he decided he wanted to race the river, which sounds like the most absolutely futile thing ever.

I'll probably do another sometime.

The moment he reached the end, he collapsed, wheezing, trying desperately to catch his breath. But he had won. He won. The river ran up next to him, and laughed. Even though he had lost, the river wasn't out of breath at all. Of course, he wasn't, he didn't have breath to lose.

Coyote gave a growl at him from where he lay, as the river continued to just laugh and laugh at him. Of all the things he had done, he thought this was both the most victorious and stupidest.

“Oh shut up,” he wheezed. “I won, damn it.”

Haha, that's so cute!

I think I remember Coyote--was he the one who tried to stay awake by propping his eyelids open with twigs, but instead managed to skewer them together?

It's somehow depressing that the trickster always stumbles, but I guess it sends a better moral message xD

I don't remember that one, but it sounds like him. He'd do something stupid like that. My favourite is where he steals the bag of stars and accidentally spills them all over the sky.

I really kinda want to do a serious work with him now, though...Yes, more mythology. Maybe that's what I'll be known fir when I'm an author?
